CPC gets $550,000 grant to grow WIC program

York, PA Community Progress Council becomes one of only 36 awardees in the country for a major grant to help grow the WIC program in York County.

“They are not just another number in our participation record,” said Carly Hess with the Community Progress Council. Through a federal grant, the Community Progress Council was awarded $550,000. Right now, about 9,000 people in the county take advantage of the program designed to help supplement and nurture healthy eating habits for pregnant women and parents of kids five and under.

With the new money, CPC plans to grow awareness about the program and connect people to other resources to help.

“We are truly helping this client with whatever needs they have, providing services in their languages, and whatever we can do to support them and empower them to move towards self-sufficiency,” Hess said.

Specifically, the grant will help pay for two outreach community navigators to spread the word.
