Westmoreland Community Action announces groundbreaking Recovery FARM
Westmoreland Community Action announces groundbreaking Recovery FARM. The FARM will be a long-term recovery community where individuals will live after their initial detox and residential rehabilitation. This project is made possible by a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to develop a feasibility study and implementation plan for expanding the current recovery-to-work ecosystem in Westmoreland County.
The Recovery FARM will provide a supportive environment for individuals in recovery for approximately two years, significantly reducing the chance of relapse from 80% to 40%, 9.6% after three years, and 7.2% after five years. To conduct a well-informed study and develop a solid action plan, WCA will assemble an advisory committee of experts, workforce development organizations, employers, agencies, and experienced community servants.
The award is part of a recently announced nearly $14 million package through ARC's Investments Supporting Partnerships in Recovery Ecosystems (INSPIRE) Initiative. The INSPIRE Initiative addresses the region's substance use disorder crisis with investments that strengthen services in the recovery ecosystem and helps facilitate workforce entry and re-entry. The project is currently in the planning stages, and the project’s advisory committee will be convening in December for next stages.”
